AFL Punter for Betfair

I was commissioned to draw a WEG-styled ‘caricature’ (of no-one in particular, just a punter) for Betfair through M&C Saatchi Melbourne and The Drawing Book for advertising during the AFL Grand Final.  Now, I don’t copy styles, but I was happy to channel some flourished from the artist and incorporate it into my illustration Not a lot of time on this one – less than a day.  (And before you ask – this ain’t vector… all drawn ‘by hand’ in Photoshop.)

Final art below, sketch and newspaper clipping below.

  1. Beautiful lines – I reckon a lot of Victorians will do a double-take at a new “Weg” drawing post-2009!

How funny, I saw this in the Herald Sun a few weeks ago & was admiring the inks and linework, I had no idea it was your work! Interesting to see how you pencil your different ink weights too.

    Thanks guys.

Erin – yeah, I usually don’t do that, but I wanted the client to have a feel for the final illo in the sketch. I’ve learnt that the more accurate the sketch, the less chance for revisions.
