MAD Mail Day

I was very excited to discover a few MAD gems in the mail today: a 1976 copy of the mag (Fonzie!) from Joel Tarling, and a sketch by the one and only Jack Davis from Jason Chatfield! A MAD Mail Day - Sketch and autographed photo by Jack Davis and December 1976 issue of the magazine

I've also included in the photo above the signed MAD Men photo brought back from Vegas by Glen Le Lievre. I'll be framing heading to the framers soon, I think!

Oh, and here's the cover letter from Mr. Chatfield. Luckily, I took his advice.

Thank you gents! A nice way to end the week.

Giles' Phatsville Tattoo

Back in 2009 I drew a custom tattoo for my mate and fellow comic artist Giles Kilham. (In fact, it was one of the first entries when I entered the world of blogging.) Keen readers will note that I promised to post pics of the actual tattoo. Only two years late, I present the process: sketch, inks and final art, to tattoo outlines, colouring, and the finished design. Please click for a closer look...

Phatsville Comix are celebrating their 10th Anniversary with their 17th issue! Have a wander over to Phatsville Comix's Facebook Page and grab your copy. I also have an illo or three in there, too, but don't let that put you off!

Thanks for stopping by. ~ Anton

Season's Bleatings!

Naughty Santa Christmas illustration by and Copyright © Anton Emdin 2011. All Rights Reserved. Ho!

As the year draws to a close I sit here in my study, puffing at my pipe while roasting chestnuts on the open fire and contemplating the gently falling snowflakes that gather on my sill. My dog, Corkey, has brought me my slippers, and while they are now mangled and dripping in saliva, warm my feet after a long day trudging through the woods picking marshmallows.

Hark! A tug at my smoking jacket: the children, Miles and April, who are usually as quiet as mice, break their silence and ask my permission to play in the den. Ash and I laugh as the kids strangle each other, and we share a tender moment much resembling a Benny Hill Show scene.

Kidding aside, it's been a fantastic twelve months. Ash's tea room is going from strength to strength, the childerbeasts are growing up into lovely people, and I've had one of my best professional years ever - producing fun drawings for some brilliant clients, and all topped off with a couple of big awards in the US and here in Australia, of which I am very proud.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas, Chanukah, Festivus, or whatever you choose to celebrate. Stay safe and see you on the other side of the New Year.

Clients - I will be shutting shop on Friday 23rd December 2011 and reopening on Monday 9th January 2012. Thank you for your commissions and I look forward to creating more custom art for you in 2012.

Cheers! Anton
