Fun fact: I’d originally drawn the three foreground figures as actual Astros players, but the SI lawyers thought it best to play it safe — so on the eleventh hour before deadline I had to redraw all the faces to be more generic.
And for the process junkies… here’s my initial scamp (drawn on a scrap of paper while watching my daughter compete in a karate tournament!) and the thumbnail sketches.
